2006 Annual Meeting
American Society for Ethnohistory
November 1-5, 2006
Williamsburg Hospitality House
Reenactments and Reinterpretations
The Department of Anthropology at the College of William and Mary, in partnership with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and the Jamestown- Yorktown Foundation is pleased to host the 2006 Meeting of the American Society for Ethnohistory. The theme of this year’s conference, in anticipation of the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, gives special emphasis to the ways in which natives and newcomers engaged with one another through culturally mediated performance, and to the processes by which ethnohistorians interpret these encounters. The upcoming quadricentennial events in the restored colonial capital of Virginia, and in nearby Jamestown and Yorktown also invite consideration of the way in which encounters have been reenacted, and what these reenactments mean.
We especially invite proposals that speak to and think creatively about this year’s theme, about encounters on the Atlantic coast, in the Caribbean, in Central America and elsewhere in the Americas, but we welcome those addressing other themes and regions as well. Individuals may submit independently. Complete panels are preferred. The deadline for applications is June 15, 2005. Applicants will be notified of the status of their proposals by September 1, 2006.
We strongly encourage electronic submissions. All of the necessary forms will be accessible through the American Society for Ethnohistory’s website: http://ethnohistory.org. Completed forms can then be emailed directly as Microsoft Word attachments to firstname.lastname@example.org. For those submitting proposals via U.S. Mail, please send 8 copies of the panel/paper abstracts, cover letter, and curriculum vitae to:
