The second annual Embarras Valley Film Festival will honor American film actor and folk musician Burl Ives (1909-1995), native of South Central Illinois and Eastern Illinois University alumnus, on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL on September 22, 2006.
In conjunction with the Film Festival, the Ives Conference on Friday, September 22, welcomes papers that explore any aspect of Ives’s career and films, including Station West (1948); East of Eden (1955); Desire Under the Elms (1958); Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958); The Big Country (1959); and Our Man in Havana (1959). We also welcome papers in related areas: theory and history of film adaptation, especially mid-century adaptations of Steinbeck, O’Neill, T. Williams, G. Greene; 20th century American folk arts; also HUAC and Hollywood; HUAC and American folk artists, etc.
