I am organizing a panel session to be presented at the Association of Black Sociologists Conference in Montreal, Quebec, Canada which takes place August 8-11, 2006. The theme and title of the conference is "Black Identity, Black Consciousness, and the Politics of Exclusion: The Intersections of Race, Class, Gender, and Sexuality."
Proposals should address the conference's theme. One of the presentations will examine the changes being made in interpretation at the Mark Twain Boyhood & Home and Museum. The museum is in the process of implementing a master plan which presents a more inclusive history of Mark Twain and his contemporary society in Hannibal, MO in the 1840s and 1850s. Similar topics would be very welcome.
ABS membership is neither currently, nor has it ever been restricted to scholars of African descent. Their interests, however, define the focus of the organization's work. Almost 90% of our members are also members of the American Sociological Association. ABS membership is on an annual basis and is due in January of each year. Each presenter must be a member of ABS. http://www.blacksociologists.org/index.htm

You may submit information by email at regina.faden@marktwainmuseum.org or by snail mail to Regina Faden, Mark twain Boyhood Home & Museum, 120 North Main Street, Hannibal, MO 63401
Please forward this CFP to any colleagues or friends who might be interested in participating in this panel.
