The Department of Art History at the Savannah College of Art and Design announces a one-day symposium to be held Friday, April 14th, 2006. This event will explore the ways in which new media art practice has sparked a new renaissance--an interdisciplinary praxis that enables integrated forms of research and knowledge production. Areas of investigation will include the following: art as system, telematics, mechatronics, genetic art, art as software, hacktivism, interactive installation/performance, generative art, and other areas relevant to this concept.
The symposium will be a one-day event that will provide a forum for dynamic discussion with a distinguished international panel of speakers. The list of participants includes Dr. Don Foresta (The Marcel Project, Paris); Dr. Katherine Hayles (University of California, Los Angeles); Dr. Timothy Jackson (SCAD); Prof. Michael Joyce (Vassar College); and Dr. Edward Shanken (SCAD).
