Workshop for Teachers
Ellis Island,
Public Health, and Immigration,
1900-1924
Two one-week sessions:
July 23-29 and July 30-August 5, 2006
Locations: Ellis Island and New York City
Offered for the first time on Ellis Island! The workshop is open to all K-12 teachers in public and private schools, and home schooling teachers. In addition to dialogue with major scholars of immigration and public health, field trips to the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and the National Archive in Lower Manhattan, teachers will tour the Ellis Island Immigration Museum and the thirty un-restored building on Ellis Island, now off-limits to the public
Participants will receive a $500 stipend to cover the cost of housing and meals. Participants will be housed in dormitory space at Pace University (local teachers may choose to commute to Ellis Island each day.)
