NEW! HIST 536-210 Advanced Placement European History
Learn which essential elements of European intellectual, political, cultural, social, economic and diplomatic history to emphasize in order to help students succeed in their coursework, perform well on the AP European History exam and develop both a passion and understanding for European History. Explore how to develop the students' ability to analyze historical evidence and their capacity to express historical understanding in writing. NEW! The institute will be taught by Fredrick Brown a teacher at Esperanza High School Anaheim, CA for 31 years and AP European History reader and consultant for 5 years. Joining him in the classroom will be William Virden, lecturer in History at UNC and AP Reader.

HIST 535-205 Advanced Placement U.S. History
With change everywhere on the historical horizon, UNC invites you to attend our summer institute in US History. The reading of the AP test is a key feature of the institute, as is a day of research to organize materials for curriculum development and unit planning. Attendees will participate in discussion and research on the best means of achieving success in the AP US History course. There will be one text required for the institute and attendees will prepare a teaching unit for review after completion of the week’s activities.
Returning to the US History Institute is Matt Tassinari. Matt Tassinari currently teaches at Palmdale High School (eleven years) and serves as the District's Social Science Curriculum Specialist. Stephen Tootle joined the faculty at UNC in 2004 after completing his Ph.D. at Ohio University. He specializes in modern American history and politics.
