This lecture will be done by Blaine Pardoe the author of the recent hit WWI book The Cruise of the Sea Eagle. The event is at Bulldog Studios, the Beacon Cultural Center, 211 Fishkill Ave, Beacon NY.
The lecture will be done on the same stage that Count Felix von Luckner spoke on February 3, 1930 during one of his US tours.
The Sea Eagle (Seeadler) was a three-masted windjammer that raided the Atlantic and Pacific. In an age of dreadnoughts, this vessel was able to befuddle the Royal Navy and was responsible for the loss of only one life - a testimony to Von Luckner's captaincy.
The lecture will cover the life of the Count, his voyage, the shipwreck of the Seeadler, his escape from prison camp and his heroic activities in his hometown of Halle Germany in WWII which saved countless American and German lives (and the town itself). Photographs and images shown come from archives around the world - many unpublished.
