Late-nineteenth and early twentieth-century America bustled. It was an increasingly urban and industrial society as people moved from farms and from overseas. Taking its cue from the classic 1902 song, Crowe Academy explores the cultural significance of leisure and popular amusements in an America that celebrated simple pleasures even as it became modern and commercial. June 23, 24, 25, 2006 on the campus of Hanover College. Registration fee of $375 covers room, books, meals, lectures, and extra curricular events. Author John F. Kasson will lecture about his book, "Amusing the Million: Coney Island at the Turn of the Century" a copy of which each registrant will receive prior to the event.
