THE ROTHSCHILD BANKS AND EASTERN EUROPE
The Rothschild Archive, London, and the Centre des archives du monde du travail, (CAMT) Roubaix, invite submissions of papers for a colloquium to be held at the CAMT 16-17 November 2006.
The two-day colloquium will examine the role played by the Rothschild banks in the history of eastern Europe, (the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, neighbouring states and Russia) from 1848 to World War II.
Over the last decade major collections of archives relating to the Rothschild banks have been rediscovered, collected, catalogued and made available for research. The colloquium is designed to enable research based on these and other sources to be presented.
Papers are invited on a range of topics, especially:
State loans
The relationship between Rothschild banks and other financial institutions
The development of railway networks
Investment in natural resources and in manufacturing
Please send a 500-word abstract of your paper, together with a one-page cv containing your contact details to Melanie Aspey, Director, The Rothschild Archive at:
info@rothschildarchive.org.
The languages of the colloquium will be English and French.
The deadline for submissions is 28 February 2006.
The selection of papers will be made by an academic committee chaired by Professor Alice Teichova and Professor François Crouzet.
