Second Call For Papers:
The History Department of the University of Toledo is calling for papers for our Second Annual Cultures in Conflict conference. The title of this year's conference is “Cultures in Conflict: Oceanic Encounters, Entrenchments, and Empires, 1450-1750.” With deepening research interest in such areas as the Atlantic World, Pacific Rim, and Indian Ocean, we wish to invite scholars examining all aspects of the social and cultural history of Oceanic empires during the early modern period. We hope that by gathering scholars of distinct interpretations we can formulate a more expansive understanding of Oceanic empires, their principal themes, and their global impact.
As with our first meeting, we are greatly interested in receiving proposals from scholars working in the Great Lakes (US and Canada) region to greater facilitate regional scholarly networks.
Our meeting will take place at the University of Toledo on April 15 and 16 of 2006. We have extended our submissions deadline to January 31, 2006.
We ask that you send two items for all individual entries: 1. Paper title and abstract of no more than 250 words, 2. A shortened (one-page) CV.
If you wish to present an entire panel please include a cover sheet with the panel name and a short (up to 250 word) description.
