Seeking one or two panelists for a broadly conceived panel on the changing roles of political elites and their relationships to grass roots causes in American historiography. One confirmed paper will focus on the role of political parties in candidate selection and the potential disconnect with the party base. Another possible paper will look at the role of interest groups in shaping public policy to the detriment of a political party's core voters. Papers dealing with elites and resistance to specific social issues, the isolation of elites from the needs and concerns of the everyday American, and grass roots resistance are encouraged. Deadline for submission is February 5, 2006. Please submit abstracts or questions to mbowen@ufl.edu
