We are seeking additional papers (and possibly a chair and a discussant) for a panel on "Transpacific Colonialisms / Postcolonialisms." The panel will be submitted to the American Studies Association Conference to be held on October 12-15, 2006 in Oakland, CA. Questions and concerns can include, but are not limited to: how do practices or notions of colonialism or postcolonialism travel across the pacific? How do travelers, writers, journalists, expatriates, laborers, filmmakers, academics, etc., represent contexts of Pacific Region colonialism / postcolonialism, perhaps redefining the relations that constitute those very terms? How are representations of seemingly localized colonial or postcolonial contexts affected by transpacific economic, political, and historical relations? We especially welcome interdisciplinary approaches.
Please send a max 500-word abstract and a one-page CV no later than January 25th to: Marguerite Nguyen, mbnguyen@berkeley.edu
