Invitation to Join Prisonersolidarity
You are invited to join a new moderated listserv, Prisonersolidarity. Based in Youngstown, Ohio (home to Ohio's death row as well as one of the highest prison concentrations for any urban area), this listserv aims to establish a regional and national network of people who are concerned with prisoners' rights and rehabilitation, social justice and prison alternatives. The regional element of this forum revolves particularly around the issue of wrongful convictions. Staughton and Alice Lynd - the lawyers and social activists who first fought to keep Youngstown's steel industry from being dismantled and have since fought to regulate the prison industry that has replaced it - are the inspiration and catalyst for this project. For more
information, you may wish to read Staughton Lynd's recent book, Lucasville: The Untold Story of a Prison Uprising. To subscribe to this listserv, please send a blank message to:

or visit the listserv homepage at:

A related news portal, Prisonersolidarity.org, serves as a space for exchange between prisoners and those of us who are on "the outside." Prisonersolidarity.org publishes updated research and educational material from activists and writers, as well as letters, articles, and opinion pieces. The website was recently launched by death-row inmate and Compassion magazine founder, Siddique Abdullah Hasan, journalist Daniel Sturm, and urban anthropologist, Dr. Angela Jancius. The new project will need a volunteer base to grow.
