The Journal of Erie Studies is currently accepting essays for its 2006 volume entitled: “Erie and its Environment”. This edition will emphasize regional environmental history broadly construed. Potential topics include (but are not limited to):
-Lake Erie central basin and its use (including changing perceptions of the lake, commercial use, recreational fishing and boating, and the central basin’s relationship to the broader ecology of Lake Erie)
-Regional industry and the environment (including resource utilization, pollution, and government/industrial policy making concerning environmental issues)
-Land and resources of Northwestern Pennsylvania, Northeast Ohio, and Western New York (including forestry, farming, land-use conflicts, hunting and other outdoor pursuits)
-Environmental organizations/groups and their role in local and regional community life
Essays should generally be between 2,500 and 4,000 words with proper source citation in footnotes or endnotes. We strongly prefer that authors submit their essays in Chicago Manual of Style or Turabian format. We look forward to reading your submissions and will be glad to accept essays until May 1, 2006. Final drafts will be due in September 2006. Please send your essays to:
