The Graduate Association of French and Italian Students of the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites abstracts on the theme of “defining spaces” for its 19th annual symposium. The symposium will be a space for students from multiple disciplines (e.g. French, Italian, African studies, art history, history, comparative literature, film, religion, philosophy, music, theater, women’s studies, gay and lesbian studies, medical history) to share, discuss and define topics related to French, Francophone and Italian literary and cultural studies. Given the diversity of the audience, presentations in English are recommended.

Please submit abstracts of 350-500 words for a final presentation of 20 minutes (about 10 double-spaced pages) to Sandra Simmons and Sharon Donaldson at gafis_symposium@yahoo.com. Please note the deadline for submissions is December 15, 2006.
