The theme of the Conference is "Hip Hop's Defiant Divas (Then and Now)" and papers will focus on the most influential women in Hip Hop culture (broadly defined, national and international). While most women featured will be rappers and music artists, we also take seriously other contributions to Hip Hop. The Conference is interdisciplinary and the dates are April 6-8, 2006. It will be held at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Keynote Speaker: Raquel Rivera (author of NY Ricans in the Hip Hop Zone).
