The Military and the American South, 1898 to present.” Contributors will discuss draft essays in a workshop to be held at historic Hickory Hill in Thomson, Georgia, October 6-8, 2006. The volume will examine, broadly, the relationship of the military and the American South, including the impact of each upon the other. Essays can address a broad range of issues including, but not limited to, southern militarism, militarization, race, class, gender, identity, culture, economics, politics, and the environment. The Watson-Brown Foundation will fund travel and lodging expenses. Please send a one-page abstract and a brief c.v. (no more than two pages) by February 1, 2006.
