Aim: The conference will examine the study of non-Russian peoples of the Russian Empire by Russian and other scholars in the first half of the nineteenth century and assess the impact such study had on the shaping of local identities. Participants will discuss pre-circulated reports from some fifty researchers.
Papers and synopses will be available electronically in advance of the conference on the websites of Kymenlaakso Summer University and the National Library of Finland.
The conference languages will be English, Finnish and Russian. Interpretation will be available.
