The African American Studies and Research Program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is sponsoring a state-of-the art conference, “Race, Roots, and Resistance: Revisiting the Legacies of Black Power” (March 30-April 1, 2006) that (re) evaluates, (re) interprets, and (re) imagines the implications of the Black Power movement and its significance to a variety of new generations. The objective of the “Revisiting the Legacies of Black Power” conference is to reexamine the legacies of the Black Power movement.
We are seeking papers that engage the complexities and nuances and not only reinterpret the past or examine current conditions, but that also chart new trajectories for Black liberation and radical social transformation. For instance, conference panels will examine:
