Textile: The Journal of Cloth and Culture is proposing a
special issue on 'Shaping Space: Textiles as Architecture
and Archaeology', to be edited by Professor Janis Jefferies
(Goldsmiths College, University of London) and Dr. Diana Wood
Conroy (University of Wollongong).
This special issue seeks to commission and invite essays that
explore contemporary textile theory with substantial historical scholarship in relation to issues raised by textiles as architecture.
This might be in an archaeological context designing ideas of
place, space and measurement through myth and narrative or
though the use of textiles by architects for acoustic purposes. We are also interested in contributions that address how sustainable textile building technologies are being applied in contemporary architecture through the use of new materials and methods of fabrication in electronic architecture.
If you would like to submit a paper, please send a first draft to the editors by 1 January 2006.
