The conference explores the premise that through imagination and ethical clarity, Nobel Laureates of African descent capture the global stage in ways that subsequently influence how the world talks and thinks about those who are dispossessed as well as how the dispossessed perceive themselves. The writings and activism of the 13 Nobel laureates of African descent have forged substantive changes in their disciplines, public discourse, and community activism. The conference welcomes disciplined-based and interdisciplinary assessments of their work as well as papers on their impact as public intellectuals.
