The Encyclopedia of Revolutions, Uprisings, and Popular Movements is seeking contributors for its entries on western and central Europe. The Encyclopedia will be a five-volume compilation of original historical essays about protests, uprisings, and revolutions in world history, to be published by Facts on File. This work will be definitive and of high scholarly quality.
The Encyclopedia’s entries that are available are two forms, ranging from 500 to 10,000 words. The first type of entries are country articles; the second type of entries are key terms/individuals.
European country articles will provide a historical overview of popular movements in alphabetical format for all countries that have experienced revolts and popular uprisings. These articles range from 1,000 to 10,000 words and will include a description of the sequence of popular movements in a country, an analysis of the participants, with attention to, among other categories, social class, nationalism, imperialism, slavery, nationalism, gender, and ethnicity; the economic, political, and social context of the revolts and uprisings; an evaluation of the impact of the revolts, uprisings, and revolutions on the country, its people, the broader region, and world. Essays should discuss the most persuasive historical interpretations of the revolts; and a range of references for further exploration.
Articles on key terms/individuals range from 500 to 1,500 words and explain the significance of that term/individual/event in relation to revolutions, uprisings, and/or popular movements.
Deadlines are negotiable, depending on the length and amount of entries that the contributor wishes to write. However, deadlines for most entries ranges from December 15, 2005 to March 15, 2006.If you are interested in contributing, please send your CV to e-mail address below.
