Dear Members of Humanities and Social Sciences Net On Line,
The Latin Americans in Canada Research Network (LAC-RN)/ Red de Estudios sobre Latinoamericanos en Canadá, (RELAC) was formed by a group of Latin American community leaders, professors and students from York, Toronto and Ryerson universities who share an interest in enhancing or contributing to Latin American communities in Canada.
RELAC’s first project was a keyword searchable virtual library with references and documents to academic work as well as community organization reports and other fugitive literature on Latin Americans in Canada. This library was launched in December, 2004 with the support of the Centre of Excellence for Research on Immigration and Settlement, Toronto (CERIS) and the University of Toronto at Scarborough (UTSC). RELAC’s virtual library is the first effort of compiling all available written materials on Latin Americans in Canada.
We are now promoting the existence of the website and its keyword searchable database. We think that an efficient way to disseminate this information is through research centres and academics departments. We ask that you help us to disseminate information about the website by setting up a link to the site from your website and/or announcing our project via any mass mailings and newsletters you produce. We include a suggested notice for our site that you may want to use and the address for the site.
Martha Barriga is leading the process of promoting RELAC. Please let her know if you are interested in adding RELAC link to your website and/or announcing RELAC’s virtual library in your mass mailing.
We thank you in advance for your collaboration.

NOTE
New Keyword Searchable Virtual Library and Network on Latin Americans in Canada
In November 2002, a group of professors and students from York, Toronto and Ryerson universities organised a meeting with members of the Latin American community to identify shared research concerns between academics and the community. The Red de estudios sobre Latinoamericanos en Canadá (RELAC) was formed as a result of this meeting.
RELAC’s library includes references on a variety of topics such as education, policy, settlement, health, women’s issues, transnationalism, identity, and immigrant participation among others. The library includes references to academic work as well as community organization reports and other fugitive literature on Latin Americans in Canada. The website also includes information about ongoing projects.
Users can download documents and submit their papers, articles, or other documents for posting at the virtual library. Please visit us at http://reel.utsc.utoronto.ca/relac/index.html or submit your work at relac@utsc.utoronto.ca
