The conference, ‘Children and the Courts ', is designed for the judiciary, legal practitioners, the medical profession, child protection experts and academics. There is continuing controversy across Australia about court process and practice in child sexual assault cases. Governments are proposing legislation to impose tighter controls on the cross-examination of children and new scope to allow expert evidence on the nature of sexual assault. These and other topics will be reviewed by speakers at the Conference.
Speakers include Judge Roy Ellis, Judge Jennifer Coate, Justice Linda Dessau, Magistrate Scott Mitchell, Magistrate Hilary Hannam and Professor Judy Cashmore.
