Participation is welcomed from interested graduate students in the field of African Studies. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum in which postgraduates can present their research and meet other students in African Studies across the disciplines, with the aim of establishing a basis for future collaboration.
The theme of the conference will be Crossing Places. This theme will be interpreted very widely and papers could address, but are not limited to, the following:
Intersections
Liminal spaces
Immigration
Diaspora
Crossing between identities
Cross-cultural experiences
Gender crossing
Racial passing
Crossing between languages
Borders, boundaries and margins
Papers should be 20 minutes in length, following which there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
Abstracts of 250 words should be submitted by e mail to Charlotte Baker: afxcab@nottingham.ac.uk and Zoë Norridge: zoe.norridge@soas.ac.uk.
The deadline for receipt of abstracts is Friday 25th November 2005.
All participants will need to register for the conference and there will be a fee of £10. Tea, coffee and a sandwich lunch will be provided.
