Panels now forming for presentations on Motorcycling in all its various forms and manifestations. Papers about any aspect of motorcycling life are welcome, including travel narratives that involve motorcycling. Please send an abstract (of 300 words or less) of your presentation to the address below. Graduate students/future teachers are particularly welcome to participate or register to attend the conference and pedagogy forum.
Writers interested in the Motorcycle Life and Culture panels should contact Paul Nagy, Motorcycle Culture Area Chair, via in the fall. Papers are requested on motorcycling and its impact on North American--and other-- societies and cultures. Suggested topics include: *Riders'narratives or descriptions of the ride* The motorcycle as art, poetry, or agency * Rituals, norms, customs, or influences in motorcyclists * Analyses of media, corporate, or other power structures in relation to motorcycling culture or popular myth * Biographical ananlyses of noteworthy motorcyclists and their influence upon myth, culture, or cultural capital * Racial, gendered, class,or demographic aspects of motorcycling culture * Other literary, anthropological, geographical, historical, sociological, or psychological perspectives of motorcycling culture or myth.
If your work does not focus on Motorcycling Culture but fits within the broad range of areas designated for the upcoming conference on American & Popular culture, I still encourage you to participate. Please pass along this call to friends and colleagues.
