"REGIONAL IN/SECURITY: REDEFINING THREATS AND RESPONSES"
20-23 OCTOBER 2005, ANTALYA, TURKEY
On behalf of the International Relations Department of Ankara University, we are delighted to invite you to the international conference on "Regional In/Security: Redefining Threats and Responses" to be held in Antalya between 20-23 October 2005, in cooperation with the NATO Public Diplomacy Division.
Based on the reputation and success of the previous conference (Change and Adaptation: Contemporary Security Challenges and NATO) organised in cooperation with the NATO Public Diplomacy Division between 14-15 May 2004, the department intends to organize the second conference on international security affairs. By focusing on the post-Cold War strategic evolution and the related changes on the nature of international security, the "2005 Conference" aims at addressing two important dimensions of contemporary international concern: firstly the evolution of the international as well as regional security systems; and secondly the non-military threats to security such as terrorism, ethnic conflicts and economic instabilities, while still exploring the traditional threats such as war, nuclear weapons and the balance of power; as well as the traditional and contemporary methods of tackling those threats in various sub-regions of the international system.
Within the framework of the conference, the main objectives are: (i) to extend public knowledge and awareness about current security problems around the world; (ii) draw attention of the wider academic, political, and bureaucratic communities as well as media to security and defence decision-making; (iii) to extend appreciation and knowledge of contemporary security challenges and the changing conditionalities in various sub-systems, such as Europe, Middle East, Black Sea, Central Asia and the Caucasus; (iv) to discuss the new problems threatening national/regional/global security and the methods of handling those threats; and (v) to evaluate the role of international institutions in the emerging regional/international security systems.
The participation fee of 150 USD includes registration, accommodation for three nights and all meals.
Deadline for registration is 10th of October, 2005.
