On Thursday, April 20, 2006 the Charles Redd Center at Brigham Young University will sponsor a workshop/seminar regarding Utah in the Twentieth Century. Those desiring to present papers at the seminar should submit a 250-500 word abstract no later than October 31, 2005. This workshop will promote discussion and showcase current scholarship regarding Utah in the twentieth century. By bringing together scholars engaged in studying Utah’s history, it will facilitate networking and allow individual researchers to benefit from the perspectives and expertise of peers from a variety of institutions. The workshop will include:
- small group discussions in which 3-4 presenters who have read each other’s papers will meet to discuss each other’s work, identifying areas for clarification and revision
- round table sessions directed by an academic editor and involving the entire group. In these sessions each author will have the opportunity to offer a 10-minute overview of their work, summarize the questions and issues raised in the small group discussion and solicit advice and assistance from the entire group.
Following the workshop presenters will revise their essays for publication in a book. This edited book will supplement and deepen the treatment of Utah’s twentieth-century history in survey texts.
