The Fourth International Charlotte Perkins Gilman Conference, with the theme "Charlotte Perkins Gilman: Then and Now," will be held June 15-18, 2006, at the Maine Women Writers Collection, University of New England, Portland, Maine.
The topics for this conference are entirely open. We seek to bring together those who are working on Gilman around the country and around the world for a collegial exchange of ideas. We invite proposals focusing directly on Gilman as well as those examining texts, individuals, and social movements that illuminate her life and work. The Conference will seek to situate Gilman in her own time ("then") as well as to explore how she and her work are being recovered, assessed, and reassessed in ours ("now").
Proposal deadline: December 5, 2005
