The third Legacy of Stones River Symposium will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2005, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The symposium will focus on occupation and the home front in Tennessee. Morning sessions will be held at the Rutherford County Courthouse, the headquarters of Union occupation of Murfreesboro, while afternoon sessions will take place at Stones River National Battlefield and Fortress Rosecrans. The featured speaker will be Stephen Ash, whose publications include _When the Yankees Came: Conflict and Chaos in the Occupied South, 1861-1865_ (1995). Other speakers will be Carol Crowe-Carraco of Western Kentucky University, Jim Lewis of Stones River National Battlefield, and Kevin Smith of Middle Tennessee State University. The afternoon activities will include a living history program.
