CALL FOR PAPERS
The James A. Barnes Club, Temple University’s graduate student history organization, is pleased to announce the Eleventh Annual Barnes Club Graduate Student Conference.
The Barnes Club Conference will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Temple University’s Center City campus, 1515 Market Street in downtown Philadelphia. In the past, the Barnes Club Conference has drawn participants from across the nation and around the world.
Proposals from graduate students for individual papers and/or panels are welcome on any topic, time period, or approach in history. The panels will include two or three paper presentations at twenty minutes each. Presentations will be followed by a brief commentary offered by a graduate student. Faculty members from Temple University or other universities in the region will moderate every panel. Cash prizes will be awarded to the best papers in certain categories. The registration fee is $15 for presenters and attendees. A continental breakfast, lunch, and post-conference reception are included.
Please submit a one-page proposal that outlines your original research and a current c.v. no later than January 16, 2006. The Barnes Club Conference Committee will evaluate proposals and inform participants by February 6, 2006. Final drafts of papers and registration fees are due no later than March 6, 2006. Electronic submissions are required.
In addition to paper presentations, the Barnes Club Conference will continue a successful program initiated at the 2004 conference: mock interviews. This program offers graduate students invaluable experience in simulated interviews with faculty members from area universities. A public mock interview will also occur for those who wish to observe someone else being interviewed. Graduate students who are interested in participating should contact us for more information. The conference schedule will also feature roundtable discussions on article and book publishing, teaching history as a career, and research tools available to historians and graduate students.
