Third panelist sought for a proposed session on the Southern Republican Party in the Post-World War II Era for the 2006 Southern Historical Association Annual Meeting, scheduled for November 17-20, 2006 in New Orleans. Session organizers are most interested in papers dealing with state or local parties, but a regional treatment of the Dixie GOP is also acceptable. One paper will deal with the efforts of the Texas petroleum industry to revitalize the state Republican Party in response to national issues. Another focuses on the response to the impending Civil Rights movement by Mississippi Republicans in the mid-to-late 1950s. Please submit inquiries to mbowen@ufl.edu . The deadline for submissions is extremely close, and proposals will be submitted electronically via the SHA website.
