Encyclopedia of Popular Protest Movements in World History
Call For Contributions
ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PROTEST POPULAR MOVEMENTS IN WORLD HISTORY
The Editorial Advisory Board of the Encyclopedia of Popular Movements in World History invites proposals for contributions to the forthcoming Encyclopedia of popular movements, uprisings, and revolutions in world history, a five-volume compilation of original historical essays about protests, uprisings, and revolutions, to be published by Facts on File. This work will be definitive and of high scholarly quality.
The Encyclopedia’s essays will take two forms, ranging from 500 to 10,000.
Country articles will provide a historical overview of popular movements in alphabetical format for all countries that have experienced revolts and popular uprisings. These articles will include a description of the sequence of popular movements in a country, an analysis of the participants, with attention to, among other categories, social class, nationalism, imperialism, slavery, nationalism, gender, and ethnicity; the economic, political, and social context of the revolts and uprisings; an evaluation of the impact of the revolts, uprisings, and revolutions on the country, its people, the broader region, and world. Essays should discuss the most persuasive historical interpretations of the revolts; and a range of references for further exploration.
Part I includes comprehensive essays examining thematic concepts and historical perspectives on revolution, uprisings, and popular movements in world history. The essays, to be written by historians, social scientists, scholars, and experts on revolution, will provide context, analysis, and background on the major issues discussed in the subsequent articles in the encyclopedia.
