This is the inaugural conference of the International Association of Contemporary Iraqi Studies (IACIS), which aims to encourage and disseminate scholarship about Iraq, particularly from social science and humanities perspectives, for a broad and diverse international public. The conference will take place in London at the University of East London, Docklands campus, on 1 and 2 September 2005. The comprehensive programme includes panels on 'Women and Gender'; 'The Media'; 'Occupation, Insurgency and Resistance in Broader Perspective'; 'Imperialism, Strategy and US Foreign Policy'; 'The Economy and Economic Policy'; 'Sanctions'; 'Culture'; 'Literature'; 'Aspects of Nation Formation'; 'Law and Constitution'; 'Iraqi Regional Cooperation', and 'Education'.
