"The Local and the Global: Teaching, Research, Activism, and Service" is the theme for the inaugural conference of the Interdisciplinary Scholars Initiative, to be held at the University of Kansas from September 9-11, 2005. Highlights include a workshop about activist theater with Joan Lipkin of That Uppity Theatre Company, plenary sessions on activism and art and civic responsibility and the university, and panels on a variety of topics about local cultures and global enterprises.
