Call for Papers
A Panel on Barcelona & Modernity, 1868-1939
The American Society for Hispanic Art Historical Studies (ASHAHS) and the Cleveland Museum of Art are pleased to announce a panel on Barcelona & Modernity, 1868-1939, on the occasion of the forthcoming first major exhibition devoted to modern art from Barcelona, at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (October 2006 - June 2007).
The panel will take place during the ASHAHS Session at the 2006 College Art Association Annual Conference in Boston. All presenters must be CAA and ASHAHS members at the time of the conference.
Proposals for papers are invited on any aspect of the visual arts in Barcelona during the years 1868 to 1939, including artists not necessarily born in Barcelona, but actively associated with the city, the Catalan Renaixença, Modernisme, Noucentisme, and 20th century avant-garde movements. Three papers of no longer than 20 minutes in length will be chosen for the Session.
Send title and paper abstract (maximum 250 words) in English, Catalan, or Spanish by September 3, 2005 to:
