South-Asian Cooperation Strategies for Human Welfare in the 21st Century & Regional Conference of RC-44 of International Political Science Association (IPSA) during 8-10 October 2005
The Department of Political Science, Ch.Charan Singh University, Meerut, U.P. (India) is hosting an International Seminar on South-Asian Cooperation Strategies for Human Welfare in the 21st Century alongwith a Regional Conference of RC-44 of International Political Science Association (IPSA) during 8-10 October 2005. You are cordially invited to participate in it.
Theme: South-Asian Cooperation Strategies for Human Welfare in the 21st Century
Sub Themes: The proposed seminar intends to take following issues for an in-depth discussion and analysis in respect to each political actor, of the sub-continent, viz. Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Maldives.
1. Identification of contentious issues in the sub continent.
2. Impact of arms race on the process of development.
3. Confidence Building measures in bilateral and multilateral basis in a bid to resolve problems being faced by the people of the sub-continent.
4. Effectiveness of SAARC in resolving the problems.
5. Future strategies of welfare & development.
6. Human Security in South Asia.
7. Strategies for human development in South Asia.
8. Role of Military in Social Welfare
9. Prospects for Intra-regional interaction for promoting development.
Call for Papers:
Participants are requested to contribute their research papers on the themes related to the main theme or the sub-themes listed above in triplicate to the Organizing Secretary in a floppy / CD form / e-mail latest by 10th August 2005. The paper should not exceed 6000 words including tables, appendices etc. and should essentially include an abstract not exceeding 250 words.
About the Department:
Department of Political Science, C.C.S. University, Meerut has been actively promoting researches in the field of Political Theory, International Relations and Governance. It has been a premier centre for empirical research. Faculty members are successfully guiding M.Phil and Ph.D. students and have produced a good number of research papers, monographs and books. It publishes a Bi-Annual Journal: Meerut Journal of Political Science and Public Administration. Currently, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, a faculty member is the Editor of the prestigious quarterly Indian Journal of Political Science of Indian Political Science Association.

Established in 1966, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut is an important seat of learning in western Uttar Pradesh (India). Spread in a lush green campus of more than 229 acres of land, the university has more than 20 regular and around 80 self-financing courses of P.G., M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programmes in Agriculture, Arts, Education, Management, Science, Engineering and Technology. The University encourages interaction with scholars from all over the country and abroad with a view to promote academic excellence.
About the City of Meerut:
Meerut, an ancient city of Mahabharata age, is situated about 75 km. north to the national capital New Delhi, and is well connected by road and rail from prominent places of the neighbouring states. Tourist places like Mussourie, Dehradun, Nainital and pilgrimage cities like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Hastinapur are situated in a vicinity of 200 kms. Indira Gandhi International Air port, New Delhi (IGIA) is the nearest airport. We are making arrangements for receiving the delegates at the airports and railway stations.
Climate:
Climate in October is normally pleasant, however, participants are requested to bring along with them some light woolen clothes. Linen shall be provided to all the participants by the organizers.
Hospitality:
Contributors will be provided free hospitality inclusive of tea, breakfast, working lunch and dinner for the three seminar days and a reception dinner on 7th October. Because of paucity of funds TA/DA will NOT be provided.
Accommodation:
Participants will be provided suitable accommodation free of cost only on prior information to the Organizing Secretary.
Registration:
Indian participants should send the registration fee of Rs. 1000 to the Organizing Secretary before 10th August 2005. Foreign delegates (Fee US$ 100) may register themselves on their arrival at Meerut. Those coming with spouses and children must intimate the Organizing Secretary well in time. You are requested to pre-register yourself by the given deadline. No request for participation will be entertained thereafter.
