"Shadows of Lost Liberty': The U.S. Constitution in Crisis.
A one-day conference on Constitutional Crisis in President Bush's War on Terror. Sessions begin at 10:00am and run to 5:00pm. Of all the possible responses to Sept. 11th, the path followed by the Bush administration is the one that does the greatest violence to the American tradition of individual liberty and limited government. Legal scholars and civil libertarians will discuss the implications of the Patriot Act, Homeland Security legislation and executive orders, and the war on the Constitution. Speakers include: David Cole (Georgetown Law), Elaine Cassel (lawyer and author), Dalia Hashad (South Asian and Muslim Advocate, ACLU), Michael Ratner (Center for Constitutional Rights), Asa Gordon (Douglass Institute of Government), and Alisha Mohammad (human rights lawyer). Keynote address by Congressman John Conyers (D. Mich.).
