The Sea Stories Project, an international initiative of the Blue Ocean Institute, is soliciting first-person writing about the sea, coast, and sea-life from writers of all levels, including students. Memoir, essays, poetry, and imaginative nonfiction are all welcome, as are photographs, drawings, or other visual arts. Selected stories and artwork will be published in a new quarterly online journal, _Sea Stories_, beginning winter 2005; the submission deadline for our inaugural issue is October 15, with quarterly deadlines thereafter. Educators in any field are encouraged to integrate the Project into your classroom assignments, offer it as an extra-credit opportunity, disseminate information to students and colleagues who may be interested – or submit your own stories! For complete information – including writing suggestions, submission guidelines, and additional ideas for how educators and organizations can participate – please visit www.blueocean.org and click on Sea Stories. By participating in Sea Stories, you and your students will join with people from all walks of life – scientists and beachcombers, explorers and vacationers, fishermen and seafood-eaters, coastal residents and inland ocean-lovers – in celebrating and protecting the world’s oceans.
