The MSc in Democracy and Democratisation aims to contribute to the education of current and future policy makers, analysts and researchers from both public and private sectors. It equips students with the theoretical tools and empirical evidence necessary for an in-depth understanding of democratic institutions and politics. They will be aware of the potential benefits and pitfalls of different institutional designs, reforms, and administrative practices, and will be able to apply international experience and comparative theories to problems of institutional design, construction, and reform in new and reforming democracies. They will understand the connection between democratic political institutions and the electorate through parties and political participation and know how to tackle the risks associated with democratic state building and reform. They will also understand connections between electorates and policy, and the relationship between voters and institutions.
Programme Length: One calendar year full-time, two calendar years part-time, starting in September.
