CALL FOR PAPERS
THE EUROPEAN LEGACY: TOWARD NEW PARADIGMS
Journal of ISSEI Special Issue on slavery
The question of slavery still looms high during the twenty-first century. It is history, yet is still very much present in many of the modern societies of today. Slavery is not just the owning of a person or persons but has now evolved to take on may different forms, many which may seem benign.
In the past, the focus on slavery has basically been historical and mostly on the trans-Atlantic slave trade. But these efforts have largely ignored the legacy slavery has played in the history, cultural, societal, political and economic formation of areas such as the Pacific, Asia, Middle East, internal Africa and Europe. Slavery has played and still plays a pivotal role in many of these societies affecting more than 27 million people world-wide
This special issue of The European Legacy seeks to examine the mark slavery has made and still makes throughout the world. The issue would like to attract articles that examine such topics as, but not limited to: the economy of slavery, literature of slavery, slave art, religion and slavery, slavery and societal change, as well as the historical implications on the present.
