Atlantic History: Soundings
The Tenth-Anniversary Conference of the Atlantic History Seminar

The International Seminar on the History of the Atlantic World, 1500-1825,is sponsoring a conference, "Atlantic History: Soundings," to celebrate the Tenth Anniversary of the program. The papers will be presented by former members of the Atlantic History Seminar, 1996-2004, and will cover a broad range of topics, from "Declarations of Independence in the Atlantic World" and the common law to the Jesuits as an Atlantic force, and from Dutch networks to the Black Atlantic. In addition to concurrent sessions during the conference, there will also be an opening session on broad themes and a session on the teaching of Atlantic history.
The conference is open to the academic public, but registration is required and must be completed no later than July 15, 2005. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, as space will be limited due to room capacities. There is a registration fee of $25.00, waived for graduate students. The papers, posted on the Web with password protection, will be available in advance of the conference to those who register.
The Conference will convene on Wednesday, August 10, at 9:00 a.m., and conclude in the early afternoon, Saturday, August 13. The preliminary program is now available on our Web site at

One may elect to attend all or only some of the sessions, but registration is required in any case. Attendees will be responsible for their own accommodations during the conference; coffee breaks and a reception will be provided.
A block of rooms has been reserved for conference attendees at the Harvard Square Hotel for a special conference rate of $145/night plus tax, single or double occupancy. In order to obtain the conference rate, hotel reservations must be made no later than July 8.
