The University of Iowa, in collaboration with Binghamton University and the American Council on Education, will host a conference on Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum: Responding to a National Need, November 5-6, 2005, at The University of Iowa.
The conference will examine Languages Across the Curriculum (LAC) related issues that have not yet been adequately discussed or analyzed, including: 1) How does LAC relate to Comparative Literature, Cultural Studies and Area Studies?; 2) How does LAC fit into the international education missions of government and business (the "expert" model vs. the "metropolitan migrant" model)?; 3) How does LAC relate to content-based language instruction and the development of new content-based FL textbooks and technology?; 4) How can we better link LAC to K-12 foreign language and cross-cultural education as well as to post-secondary international education, including study abroad?
The deadline for conference registration is October 21, 2005.
