Liverpool and Transatlantic Slavery, 13-15 October 2005.
An international conference at Merseyside Maritime Museum, Liverpool, UK. It is over 25 years since Roger Anstey and Paul Hair produced their influential volume of papers Liverpool, the African Slave Trade, and Abolition.
This conference will reflect advances in research on transatlantic slavery which have been made in the intervening period.
The opening keynote address will be given by David Richardson.
Conference themes include: the memorialisation and representation of slavery; Abolition; Liverpool and the slave trade; Africa and African Agency.
Confirmed speakers include Stephen D. Behrendt, Paul Lovejoy, Kenneth Morgan, Andrew Walls and Lorena Walsh. Delegates will also have the opportunity to view Merseyside Maritime Museum's award-winning exhibition Transatlantic Slavery: Against Human Dignity.
