The Courtauld Institute of Art is the foremost centre in Britain for the study of the history of art and has a renowned international reputation.
The Summer School runs from 11 to 29 July 2005. Eighteen classes are offered, and each course is one week long, from Monday to Friday.
The courses focus on a range of topics from Ancient to Contemporary art. They are taught in small groups and involve lectures, visits to galleries, museums and buildings, often with special access to certain collections, as well as two parties. The Summer School welcomes everyone, including students from the age of 16, and many students return each year. No previous art-historical training is necessary.
The schools provide access to the Institute and its collections, with a stimulating range of intensive courses that examine broad themes in the history of art combined with the close study of individual objects. Classes are held in Somerset House seminar rooms and in the lecture theatre and in front of the actual works of art, in collections and at monuments in London and beyond. A drinks party in the splendid setting of the Courtauld Institute of Art Gallery is a feature of each week.
