The editors of The Industrial Revolution in America, a nine-volume series to be published by ABC-Clio in 2005-06, are seeking contributors for the volumes devoted to Communications and Agriculture/Meatpacking (each volume focuses on a specific industry that played a significant historical role in the expansion of the United States into a major economic power).
Specifically, we are seeking to assign the following chapters for each volume:
Innovations and Inventions
Major Entrepreneurs and Companies
Lives of the Workforce
Labor Organizations and Reform Movements
Environmental Impact of the Industry
Immigration's Impact on the Industry
Societal Impact of the Industry
Gilded Age Art and Literature
The Industry in the Modern Era
Coverage emphasis for all chapters should be on the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. All chapters should be approximately 10,000 words in length and written for a general readership. Compensation is $750 per chapter. In addition, contributors will receive attribution in the volume and a copy of the book upon publication. The deadline for manuscript submission is September 1, 2005.
