Papers or short communications are invited informing on current research being undertaken on Mediterranean maritime history since the thirteenth century CE on the use of the sea as a resource, for transport, power projection, scientific purposes, leisure activities, and as an inspiration in culture and ideology. A selection of the papers will be published.
In addition to the academic sessions, the organizers intend to schedule visits to archaeological and other sites including; the Greek-Roman Theatre in Taormina; the medieval village of Castel Mola; the site of the ancient Greek town of Tindari, founded in 359 BCE; and the islands of Lipari.
A one page proposal in English or French, along with a 100 word CV, should be sent to the organizer not later than the 31 August 2005. Notification of acceptance will be provided by the 31 October 2005.
