Victorian Periodicals and Politics

The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals will host its annual conference on the theme of "Victorian Periodicals and Politics" at George Washington University, Washington DC, September 15-18, 2005. Leslie Howsam, University of Windsor, will deliver the Michael Wolff Lecture on "Narratives and Editors: History and Historians in Victorian Periodical Research." Sally Mitchell, Temple University, will deliver the Plenary Lecture on "Freedom to Write: Negotiating Editorial Politics." Panel topics include art journals and criticism; fin-de-siecle journals; poetry, periodicals, and the imperial; religion and religious periodicals; women and their magazines; periodical authorship and audience; periodicals and political reform; national identities, imperial identities; feminist politics; dance, dining, music.
