The Latin American and Caribbean Section (LACS) of the Southern Historical Association (SHA) invites individual papers and complete panels for presentation at its annual meeting to be held November 17-20, 2006 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Papers on any aspect of Latin American or Caribbean history are welcome. Papers are encouraged on the themes of agriculture, popular culture, interactions between racial and ethnic groups, and applied or public history. Panels with a comparative component with U.S. South are also encouraged. Advanced graduate students are encouraged to submit proposals and become eligible for the Ralph Lee Woodward, Jr., Prize, an annual award for best paper presented by a graduate student. Presenters are not permitted to give papers at consecutive meetings but may serve as chairs of commentators.

Proposals should include a 250-word abstract of the paper and an abbreviated c.v. for each presenter. These may be sent via email attachment to the following e-mail address. Those who prefer a hard-copy submission should send three copies to:
