University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) announces fellowship funding for K-12 Maryland teachers interested in traveling to Africa. The Department of Political Science will offer “An International Perspective on Governance and Policy: Ghana's Dynamic Democratic Culture” 2005 Study Travel to West Africa, July 18 – August 16, 2005
Fellowship funding includes airfare, meals, visa fees, transportation from UMBC to BWI, lodging (all rooms with private bath and based on double-occupancy), tours and site visits, all transfers and baggage handling, security, hotel taxes and service charges, gratuities, seminar lectures, cultural and experiential learning activities, course materials, in-country farewell dinner, identification cards for library access, basic health insurance, and language instruction. (Single rooms are available for an additional $971.) Funding also provides money to purchase educational materials. While in Ghana, educators will also participate in workshops led by the Project Directors and a Maryland Curriculum Specialist on how to incorporate materials into curricula. Fellowship recipients must pay only a $500 program fee and register for the UMBC summer course. Recipients will return to UMBC in the fall for an additional workshop on curriculum development.
